CARTER BANK & TRUST DONATES MORE THAN $28,000 TO NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN Q1, 2022

Community CARE Posted on May 31, 2022

In continuing its reputation of caring for the communities it’s privileged to serve, Carter Bank & Trust (NASDAQ: CARE) donated more than $28,000 to 24 non-profit organizations throughout its footprint in Q1 as part of the Bank’s CARE Forward program.

“Caring for the communities we serve has been a hallmark of Carter Bank & Trust since our founding, nearly 50 years ago,” Program Manager Kim Simon said. “We are proud to use CARE Forward as a platform to continue that mission and to be able to support so many organizations that are able to help others.”

Through the CARE Forward program, the Bank donates $10 to a local non-profit for each business and personal checking account opened in a branch.  For online account openings, donations are made to the American Red Cross. In addition to a monetary investment, Carter Bank associates also invest their time through service engagements with their local CARE Forward nonprofit partner.

Community Health and Wellness is a theme many of the CARE Forward partners share.

Two of those organizations are Women of Choices located in Wilson N.C. and Arc of the Piedmont, located in Charlottesville.

Women of Choices helps empower women between the ages of 18 and 55 to end their homelessness and assist women with securing meaningful employment and/or becoming entrepreneurs.

They offer comprehensive services for the residents that address medical, substance abuse, and mental health needs. The residents have access to parenting classes, health and nutrition education, banking and finance courses and more. They are also able to provide residents with in-house counseling, daily living skills, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy classes with a goal of helping them become self-sufficient, independent of public assistance, remain crime free and regain custody of their children.

Executive Director Tamala Fuller said the donations from Carter Bank & Trust helps them carry out their mission of helping empower women to be self-sufficient.

“The goal is to lead women into self-sufficiency achieved through employment and obtaining adequate housing and transportation for themselves,” Fuller said. “Additionally, we strive to lead homeless and newly released women from incarceration to independent living for themselves and their families.”

Arc of the Piedmont helps build a future where all people with developmental disabilities and their families experience their best lives possible. Founded in 1954, The Arc of the Piedmont is a non-profit organization supporting people with developmental disabilities in Charlottesville and surround counties. The Arc offers a variety of residential options including in-home support, sponsored residential and group home services in the local community.

As a Medicaid supported service provider, 100 percent of the donations from Carter Bank & Trust are able to go directly to Arc’s programing.

“Your donation enhances the services and programs we offer as well as provide a larger opportunity for community engagement,” Development Director Bryan Harris said. “The Arc of the Piedmont recently founded our new Art Studio, where our clients can showcase their talents in art. This artwork will be showcased in galleries, coffee shops and many other events. Later in 2022, The Arc of the Piedmont will be renovating our basement at the Rose Hill Drive facility. Along with a matching grant from Perry Foundation, your donation will be going towards enhancing our Art Studio space and providing more supplies to create the magnificent art work.”
