Carter Bank & Trust Helps Community Shred 3,000 Pounds of Sensitive Documents

Community CARE Posted on April 18, 2022

Carter Bank & Trust recently hosted a community Shred Day at our Westridge Branch location in Greensboro, NC. Nearly 100 cars utilized this service to dispose of more than 3,000 pounds of sensitive documents which were securely shredded and disposed of by Commonwealth Document Management.

Shred Day initiatives are hosted of Carter Bank & Trusts “Green Team” whose focus is to inspire environmentally friendly programs and concepts that impact both the bank internally, and the communities we are privileged to serve.

“Protecting your personal information is one of the most important things you can do to keep yourself safe from identity theft.  By hosting Shred Day events, our bank provides the community with a mechanism to destroy sensitive items, like bank statements, in a safe and secure manner,” Vice President and Director of Facilities Olivia Karavatakis said. “In addition to helping people protect themselves, all of the paper collected will be recycled, which falls in line with Carter Bank & Trust’s commitment to helping protect our environment.”

According to statistics from The University of Southern Indiana, the 3,000 pounds of paper recycled will help save more than 25 trees from being cut down, saves more than 500 gallons of oil used in paper production, keeps five cubic yards of waste out of landfill space, saves 6,000 kilowatts of energy consumption, and saves 10,000 gallons of water from being used in process.

Through the Bank’s CARE Forward Program, Carter partners with nonprofits in the community to allocate funds, organize volunteer opportunities, build relationships and inspire engagement alongside our community.  During this Shred Day event, Carter Bank & Trust collected donations to support the Triad SPCA, including dog and cat food, bedding and toys.  In addition to these supplies, visitors contributed more than $400 in monetary donations.

“Carter Bank & Trust strives to be a leader in the communities we are privileged to serve and partnering with non-profit organizations like the SPCA of the Triad is a way for us to be able to give back, while supporting their mission,” Karavatakis added.

Carter Bank & Trust will be holding Shred Days at different locations throughout the VA and NC footprint periodically over the next few years.  Future Shred Days in 2022 are being scheduled in Northern Virginia, Roanoke, Va. and Charlotte, NC. The dates and locations of these events will be announced at a later time.
