Carter Bank & Trust  was named the recipient of the Clyde Hooker Award from Piedmont Arts, in Martinsville.

Established in 2003, the Clyde Hooker Award is given annually by the Piedmont Arts Board of Directors to recognize businesses and individuals that are involved in and support Piedmont Arts and other arts and cultural organizations in Martinsville-Henry County. The award is named in honor of J. Clyde Hooker, Jr. for his support of the arts.

“To be the recipient of the Clyde Hooker Award is a tremendous honor for Carter Bank & Trust,” Chief Executive Officer Litz Van Dyke said. “We strive to be a leader in our communities, not just in the financial sector, but by supporting local organizations, like Piedmont Arts, and by supporting programs that help make the places we live and work better for everyone.”

“The arts is a very important pillar in Community Development, and we are grateful for the valuable work of Piedmont Arts, CRA & Fair Lending Officer Beverly Pitzer said.  “It provides a hub of community leadership and thought-provoking content. It has been a joy to sponsor the Piedmont Arts African American Read-In and other Family Days, like Earth Day, for the last five years.”

As a long-time supporter and  Corporate Partner of Piedmont Arts, Carter Bank & Trust worked with Piedmont Arts in the following ways:

  • Continually sponsored Family Days since 2017, including the African American Read-In each February
  • Provided technical assistance regarding an energy audit for LED lighting and solar energy, in 2021,
  • Donated funds in 2021 to provide LED lights for Piedmont Arts’ capital campaign, through a community reinvestment project by the Bank for the Martinsville & Henry County Area
  • Associates have served on the Board of Directors and Endowment Board, including a past President of the Board in 2016/2017
  • Associates have volunteered at annual fundraising and community events, as well as participating in various programing, art shows and more.

“Carter Bank & Trust is a long-time friend of the arts,” said Piedmont Arts Executive Director Heidi Pinkston. “They have supported Piedmont Arts for many years and are generous friends of the community, donating their time and financial support to local causes.”
